I feel as if my whole day every day is devoted to creating something. I create blog posts, or graphics, or websites, or even little things like Facebook or twitter posts. I work with clients to create marketing plans or in my own business to create displays or creative ways to approach sales. However even in the midst of all this creating, I sometimes feel the need to create something more artistic (perhaps that is why I am uber-addicted to Drawsomething).

One of my Favorite Drawings

I take great pride in my drawings and I enjoy the minute details of my drawings. When I first began to play I was oft irritated when my opponent would guess my drawing before it was complete. However, I came to realize that I drew more for me than my opponent and no matter how far into my drawing they guess correctly, I was still able to complete my drawing and be satisfied with the completed picture.

Last weekend I felt the need to create something a little more permanent. I have seen many ‘Porch Rules’ signs on pinterest. They always interest me and I even printed out (or pinned) a few with the idea of buying one. Nonetheless, there never seemed to be the perfect one – That one that said exactly what I wanted. Therefore, I decided to create my own.

I began with a weathered 12 foot one by six. I sketched out the words as I wanted them to appear. Measured the wood I had and the space I needed and made my cuts.

I gathered my variety of paint colors and set about to paint the words on the boards. It was a full afternoon of painting. The next day I took thin strips of wood and wood screws and attached my various words together. I attempted to hang my sign with wire but it was too heavy so I purchased some nice natural rope and used it to hang the sign.

My new porch sign

My sign may not be as snazzy as the ones I see on pinterest but all the words are words I wish to describe MY porch time. With the added satisfaction of knowing that I made it.
