Can you Catch your Dream?

Dream Catcher Lore:

Native American Dreamcatcher

Native Americans believe that the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad. The dream catcher when hung over or near your bed swinging freely in the air, catches the dreams as they flow by. The good dreams know how to pass through the dream catcher, slipping through the outer holes and slide down the soft feathers so gently that many times the sleeper does not know that he/she is dreaming. The bad dreams not knowing the way get tangled in the dream catcher and perish with the first light of the new day. (per

In your waking moments you catch your dream by chasing after it. Dreams never come true just by dreaming them. You must begin following your dream. Put in the work to stay on the path. Then you can realize the achievement of your goal.

How to die Happy

An ancient proverb says, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” You have probably known people nearing the end of their life’s journey who looked back and said, “If only I had done things differently . . . . .If only I had taken advantage of that opportunity when it came along.”

I recently encountered this story from an unknown author:

Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the famous 19th-century poet and artist, was once approached by an elderly man. The old fellow had some sketches and drawings that he wanted Rossetti to look at and tell him if they were any good, or if they at least showed potential talent.

Rossetti looked them over carefully. After the first few, he knew that they were worthless, showing not the least sign of artistic talent. But Rossetti was a kind man, and he told the elderly man as gently as possible that the pictures were without much value and showed little talent. He was sorry, but he could not lie to the man. The visitor was disappointed, but seemed to expect Rossetti’s judgment.

He then apologized for taking up Rossetti’s time, but would he just look at a few more drawings – these done by a young art student? Rossetti looked over the second batch of sketches and immediately became enthusiastic over the talent they revealed. “These,” he said, “oh, these are good. This young student has great talent. He should be given every help and encouragement in his career as an artist. He has a great future if he will work hard and stick to it.”

Rossetti could see that the old fellow was deeply moved. “Who is this fine young artist?” he asked. “Your son?” “No,” said the old man sadly. “It is me – 40 years ago. If only I had heard your praise then! For you see, I got discouraged and gave up – too soon.”

At the end of your life, will you regret not following your dream? or will you be able to look back at a life of fulfillment? The choices you make today determine the answers. The ease of giving up will create the pain of tomorrows regret.

The Power of NO

The first truly empowering word a child learns is ‘no’.  It is fun to watch them when they have learned the power of this word. They use it for everything. no no no no no Quickly the cute is gone and adults begin to curb a child’s use of no.

As adults, we are still curbing our use of the word no. Everywhere we look someone wants something from us. Our children, our spouse, our employer, even the dog, everyone wants some little piece of you. More often than not, you want to give, to take care of, and to over achieve.  It is not wrong to want to help, to nurture, to be the best you can be.

However, by saying yes are you are losing yourself to those around you. How often are you are saying yes, but know it is stretching you too thin? Are you doing so much for others that you have no time for you? Then it is time to revert to your terrible twos. Relearn the word no.

The word no can make you a better parent, partner and employee. Focus on what is important and say no to everything else. Your life will be better.

Life is a Marathon

Every life has it’s challenges, obstacles to overcome and miles to travel.   Living a fulfilled life is like training for a marathon.  It is not something that just happens; a lot of effort, sweat and even tears will come before the end.  But in the end, after all the hard work, comes a great sense of accomplishment, of a job well done.

There are some marathon training tips that can also be applied to the journey called life.  They can be used to overcome challenges and achieve your goals.

Visualize the Outcome

What is your vision for you life?  Keeping that visual in the forefront of your mind will allow you to remain focused on the goal.  The struggles won’t seem as difficult because you know what the end result will be.

Take Action

You will never get anywhere sitting still.  The only way to complete a marathon is one step at a time.  Life is the same way, you can only get to your goal by taking one step at a time.  Do something that moves you forward every day, even if it’s only a small something, at least you are moving.  And moving builds momentum.

Keep a Positive Attitude

It has been said that the most important decision you make each day is you choice of attitude.   Negative self talk will only serve to slow you down, maybe even stop you far short of your goal.  By keeping a positive outlook, you will be more likely to keep moving in the right direction.

Life, like a marathon, is an endurance event with many twists, turns, ups and downs.  By following these three simple steps, you will be well on your way to finishing your life’s marathon with a smile on your face.
