Dads, Trains and a World Record

On Saturday, April 23, 2011 I snuck away from my soap selling duties to attend the attempt by the model railroaders from the Wilmington Rail Road Museum to break the record for the world’s longest model train at Wilmington’s new Convention Center. A train consisting of 31 locomotives and 1563 cars was placed on 1000 feet of track in the Convention Center’s main exhibit hall. At about 925.55 feet long, this train traveled continuously for 750 feet to surpass the record set by Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany in 2008. The World Record Run was witnessed and documented in order to be included among other achievements listed by Guinness World Records. Easter Sunrise 2011

As has become our tradition, we attended the sunrise service on Carolina Beach. The Carolina Beach Community of Churches sponsor this event each year. It has been a rare year that God didn’t provide a spectacular sunrise for the occasion. This year was no exception. Weight loss improves memory

There are all kinds of inspirations in the world. There’s the no one believes I can therefore I will. There are those who are just motivated, internally. And there are those of us who struggle to stay on the path. I am the latter! I struggle to keep my health and fitness in the forefront of my mind. My mother has attempted to browbeat me into submission my whole life (about everything, not just health) but I just do not respond positively to such tactics. On the other hand I am not really susceptible to the cajoling either. A Day off Work

I visited Moore’s Creek National Battle field yesterday as a part of my day off from work. Although it rained (poured actually) through much of my visit, I was able to take a few interesting shots. The ones in this post were all taken down by the creek near the picnic area.

The one time being lazy paid off for me

Sunday before last was a quiet Sunday at my house. We’d worked hard on Saturday and it was a beautiful morning. We talked about taking our bikes for a ride. Instead we stayed home. It’s funny how life happens. About 9:30 we heard the sounds associated with an accident. The rescue personnel rushing to assist. Later I saw a post on facebook saying two cyclists were hit on River Road. I thanked God I was lazy and choose to sit and drink coffee rather than ride. You see, had I ridden I would have been on River Road, on my bike. We have all heard the saying that goes something like this, ‘but for the grace of God, there go I’.
