Everyone’s a Critic

2011/08/16 Gayle 0

My mother has her PhD in criticism. Nothing has ever been enough and she is never pleased with anything. She believes that she motivates people by pointing out how they could be better. Some days it feels as if everyone is my mother! They all want to tell me how to live my life. Not just family members but, the neighbors, some guy on the street, even billboards and commercials want to tell you how you should eat or what you should wear. It can almost be overwhelming all the people who want to tell us how to live and who we should be or become. Then there are those who are just critical of everything you do. If you start exercising they feel the need The rest of the story

SMART goal setting

2011/08/12 Gayle 0

Like it or not, goal setting is a central and essential aspect of life. For some of us, this is a mindful process, however many others are unaware of the goal setting act and therefore have very little direction or purpose. You may be surprised to learn that you are setting goals on a daily basis. Some are relatively small and seemingly insignificant such as deciding what you will eat for lunch, while others are more important and relevant to your potential accomplishments. So today let’s talk about setting SMART goals in life; mostly the big GOALS, but also some of the small goals. A SMART goal refers to a method of goal setting and not just intelligent goals. It is a five step method The rest of the story

Attitude is a Choice

On a recent blog post there was a comment where the writer questioned the part of my bio where I said I was a ‘self-proclaimed struggler’. She felt that comment was negative. I, on the other hand, see it as an honest assessment of me. I struggle. I struggle to stay positive. I struggle to have positive self-talk. I struggle! Struggling to me it not a negative; struggling means that I am striving to achieve my goals in the face of resistance. I want to walk around the world singing ‘It’s not easy being green’ with Kermit the frog! Except I want to sing” it’s not easy being me!” And I suspect many of you feel the same. I, like you, strive to live happy, The rest of the story

You are Never a Failure until You Stop Trying

2011/08/09 Gayle 1

It is hard for me to accept when something doesn’t work. I have an idea and I try to go from idea to reality and it doesn’t work! Soon I am feeling like a failure. It is easy to take a lack of success and label it as failure; when the reality isn’t failure but lack of success. Perhaps you have heard how Thomas Edison unsuccessfully tried over 6ooo times to create a light bulb. On one occasion a young journalist challenged Edison saying to him, “Mr. Edison, why do you keep trying to make light by using electricity when you have failed so many times? Don’t you know that gas lights are with us to stay?” To this Edison replied, “Young man, don’t you realize that I have not failed but have successfully discovered six thousand The rest of the story

Who are You?

2011/08/05 Gayle 1

Who are you? It is such a difficult question to answer. Am I am parent or a child? Am I a student or a teacher? Am I a friend or a foe? Who am I? Yesterday I attended a funeral service. As I sat in the service I thought about who she was.  I thought of all the people in attendance and how she may have touched their lives. Perhaps, the idea of touching each others lives was fresh in my mind because I had the day before read a blog post by Cherry Woodburn ‘Learn About Your Hidden Superpower & Use It For Good’ where she talks about how we influence others in our every day lives. When someone stands before those you have influenced The rest of the story
