Party Hardy

I celebrated a birthday last week.  Since I am still recovering from surgery the celebrations were far less than the blog title might lead you to believe. I did take a trip (5 minute drive) to see the ocean. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing my photographic record of the event as much as I did shooting them. We were at Fort Fisher and I became enamored with this fence.

Businesses are built on Networking and networking is what Social Media is all about. Connecting with other business partners, as well as keeping in touch with and interacting with your customer base. Here in Wilmington NC we have events called Tweetups where people who regularly interact on Twitter can meet IRL (In Real Life). The next Cape Fear Area Tweetup will be January 27th in The Beam Room at Front Street Brewery from 5:00pm until 6:30pm. You can find the Cape Fear Tweetup group on the web HERE I hope I get to see you there! Gayle @dalm8ton

You’re in Charge

When I was a young adult and would go to my farther for advice, he would always end the conversation with ‘You’re in Charge’. Naturally, I believed he was talking about how much I should put in retirement, or if I should trade vehicles, or change jobs. Now that I am much older, I realize that his statement holds true for just about everything in life. We ARE in charge! We are in charge of our emotions; our successes and our failures. We are in charge of who we allow to upset us or how we derive joy.  No one controls our destiny but us! What will you embrace today?

It REALLY is the little things

I had surgery in December. It was major surgery which, as it turned out was more complicated than first expected. The story began about 12 weeks ago, I won’t bore you with gory details, but from the beginning I have been calling this an experience. Today I ran across this quote: “Never regret. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience.”—Victoria Holt My word for 2012 (I usually pick three but in my year of simplify I am only choosing one) is yes. Yes means I am open to possibilities. Yes means I’m off the couch and into my life. And Yes means remembering to enjoy and appreciate the little things in my life. My surgery has been very humbling. I’ve learned the small joys The rest of the story

Train Memories

My mom sent me this video Along with the following note: I grew up about 1/10 mile from the train, the passenger trains stopped there and we rode to Bluefield and back. There are many good memories of the trains, especially during World War II then the troops would wave and throw out addresses hoping to get a letter for some one. When the passenger train went with green flags that meant a troop train would come soon. We lived close enought to see the trains and knew what different flags meant. There were very long coal trains and some times they would block the crossing for a good while, waiting to get into the Bluefield yard Gayle again – I remember my grandma’s being right by The rest of the story
