Happiness is an interesting concept. It is something we all desire and yet it is a state of mind that few can completely articulate. What is happiness? I learned as a child that I was entitled to the right to pursue happiness. Like many American children, I believed that meant I was entitled to happiness. I could ramble on and on about the ills of our societal belief that we are entitled to be happy, but I won’t, perhaps I’ll rant about that later. What I am coming to accept is that happiness comes in the pursuit. We must actively seek happiness. Happiness doesn’t just come and find you. Plenty of Socks at Lo Tide

We have arrived at the time of year when festival and events permeate my life. Last week Jenn announced that we have no free Saturdays until October. Part of me is excited to be back to the grind and part of me is already longing for a Saturday free from work! Yesterday we attended, as vendors, the Lo Tide Run in Carolina Beach. This was the 8th annual Lo Tide Run whose goal is to raise money to assist local cancer victims in financial need in memory of Steve Haydu of Carolina Beach who died from cancer at a young age. This year there were 1950 runners pre-registered for the race and undoubtly over 2000 who ran (some registered the day of the race). I had The rest of the story

We measure the progression of life by milestones. We count birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrate big on round numbers. We notice the odometer on our vehicles and ‘mark’ major round numbers (today my truck will pass 123,000). If you tweet, you probably notice your number of tweets or followers. No doubt you have heard the saying, ‘you can’t know where you are going unless you know where you have been’. I do believe that statement is true. I recently discovered the quote that is located in the Norlin Library at the University of Colorado, “Who Knows only his own Generation remains always a child.” This leads me to the topic of today’s post – My Grandmother. No doubt there are others who could possibly tell the story better or more fully but this is my story and my perspective. My grandma was Emily McKenzie.
