Are you Stuck?

2012/08/09 Gayle 0

I’m feeling stuck.                   I feel stuck in my writing. I feel stuck in my life.  I just feel stuck. I am frustrated with how to break my current cycle of being stuck and I although intellectually I think I have a good idea of how to get unstuck. I seem so mired in the minutia that I am unable to propel myself in to any action. So today I thought I’d share with you my top five ways to get unstuck (take it from me, they’re not easy – but they work): 1) Tell the Truth! Yep, the truth, the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth; to yourself, to your family, to your friends – The rest of the story

Let’s Face It: Change is Hard

I like consistency. Maybe that makes me boring. Maybe it means I am old and set in my ways (you know how old dogs are with new tricks). However, it seems as if the universe has decided I need changes in my life. It started with little things…like, my cereal that I eat every morning has become virtually impossible to find. While not having my preferred breakfast isn’t the end of the world, it does change my pattern of behavior. Last Tuesday afternoon, a thunder storm passed through. I was excited because I had just come off of a long and emotional weekend. I saw the storm as an excuse to shut off my computer and nap. However, as fate would have it, the storm The rest of the story

The Most Effective Yes is NO

This morning I noticed that my blotter paper was beginning to look ragged. Over the years I have used many different types of blotters, some have calendars, some have cute pictures, and this one is plain paper. I use it to write myself notes. I use it to doodle. I have been pleased with the places YES has taken me in 2013 – ziplining, competitive dining, concerts, woodworking, parties, shooting range, and most recently marathon training <eeek>. The list is far too long to share here of all the things YES has made (allowed) me do! The rest of the story

It’s Getting Hot in Here

Yesterday was the first day of 2012 we reached 90° in Wilmington, NC. I think we’ve had a few brushes with 90 but over all we’ve had a mild spring. Weather is not something I pay much attention to, unless we’re hitting the extremes – drought, flood, hurricane, extreme hot or cold, etc etc. I probably wouldn’t have realized yesterday was our first day of 90° temps EXCEPT, when we came home yesterday around 5:30 it was hotter in our air conditioned house than it was outside! We were running out to another meeting. So, I ran the thermostat down to 70° and left for the evening. When we returned home the house was cooler than it had been but still not as cool as The rest of the story

Throwing Down the SMILE Gauntlet

2012/06/15 Gayle 0

It’s FRIDAY! It is a day we all love to celebrate and a day that makes most of us smile. In an article, The Untapped Power Of Smiling, he wrote last year for Forbes, Ron Gutman offers some very interesting statistics regarding smiling. Things like longer life, better marriages, more success and less stress. I think his ending paragraph sums up the varying studies “So now, whenever you want to look great and competent, improve your marriage, or reduce your stress…or whenever you want to feel as good as when you’ve enjoyed a stack of high quality chocolate without incurring the caloric cost, or as if you randomly found 25 grand in the pocket of a jacket you hadn’t worn for ages…or when you want to tap The rest of the story
