Waiting to Win the Lottery

2012/03/30 Gayle 0

It seems that everywhere I turn someone is talking about winning the Mega Millions Lottery tonight. Friends are posting about it on Facebook and twitter, news agencies are making it the lead story and it was a topic of conversation at dinner last night. The total is currently $540 Million and we all love to dream about what it would be like to have that type of cash. All this hype made me think about the happiness lottery. Are you just sitting back and waiting to win? Think about all the millionaires you know. (I’ll wait) Now think about how they became millionaires. Chances are not one of them became a millionaire by winning the lottery. Why then do The rest of the story

Pursuing The Theory of Happiness

2012/03/29 Gayle 0

Last week I shared my interest in pursuing happiness. I had stumbled upon a blog post by Gretchen Rubin and was impressed by what she had to say in  10 Counterintuitive Tips For Being Happier. My interest in happiness did not stop there. As I confessed, I have been demanding happiness for months (maybe even years) without a true path to finding happiness. Last weeks post prompted me to take a closer look at happiness and my own responsibility in the pursuit of finding it. My first step was to buy  The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. I expected to find a dry clinical approach to happiness but what I found was an interesting (and at times light hearted) story of the struggle to be happy(er). The rest of the story

Never Lose Hope

I was born with a black thumb. Although it wasn’t visible to everyone in the delivery room, it was there lying dormant waiting for the day I would attempt to keep a plant alive. Perhaps you would think that at the age of 49, I would accept this and stop torturing poor unsuspecting plants – you’d be wrong! Over the weekend at the Poplar Grove Herb and Garden Fair, I saw plants; Beautiful flowering plants, amazing herb plants, and new and promising vegetable plants. I wanted them ALL! I want a lovely English style garden that has the completely unkempt look but evidently requires more than tossing about a few seeds. I came home from the weekend with, you guessed it, plants! I have three The rest of the story

BUT, WE HAD A PLAN

2012/03/23 Gayle 0

I love a plan! I enjoy the process of making a plan. There is just a special joy about deciding a course of action to deal with a specific problem. Left to my own devices, I usually stick with the plan. As a matter of fact, I often find myself in the position of wondering why something did not happen….and my response is ‘BUT, WE HAD A PLAN’. The reality is that having a plan and implementing a plan live at opposite ends of the spectrum. So here are steps to help you accomplish what you are planning: 1 – Make your plan realistic. When making a plan it is tempting to want to see everything in a Pollyanna, pie in the sky way; DON’T The rest of the story

JUMP

2012/03/21 Gayle 0

I love the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. In the movie, there is a scene where Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman) and The Kid (Robert Redford) are being pursued by a small but skillful posse. At first we see Butch and the Kid try to out run those in pursuit. Then they try trickery and hiding among the mountains. Eventually our heroes come to a point where the only choices are be captured or jump off the mountain into a raging river. At times responsibilities and pursuing goals can feel this way. We run, we avoid, we try tricks and eventually our only choices are to admit defeat or JUMP! I certainly can’t speak for everyone, but my favorite trick for avoidance….the internet.
