Life in a Super Bowl Party

Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday – A sacred day in our culture. In our house we love football. We devote most Sunday’s to cheering our teams. Several years ago Jenn and I started hosting a Soup(er) Bowl party, as the name implies we make soup and have a party. It is great fun and we enjoy the experience, except when our team(s) are actually playing. At those times the social interaction of the party eliminates seeing the game. (As a side note, we now only host a party when we have no dog in the fight). Frequently in reaching for our goals we encounter the same type of problem. We know our goal but we get so caught up in the trappings around the goal The rest of the story

Dust off your Dream

Title IX turns 40 this year. It should come as no surprise that I remember June 23, 1972,  the day it became law. I stood earnestly before the console TV and watched the news story. Girls playing sports! Naturally, my precocious nine year old self was anxious to be a benefactor of this new legislation. Sadly, I was in college before I played any organized sports. My parental unit was of the ‘don’t rock the boat’ generation and change doesn’t come quickly in small town America. However, I was desperate to play little league baseball.  After College I coached little league softball. Which minute is THE minute

I have been reading 11/22/63: A Novel (Affiliate link) for the past couple of weeks.  I am not a Stephen King fan;  I actually think this my first Stephen King (I don’t do scary, books or movies). I read it simply because of its historical value. The premise of the book is that time travel is available and a man travels back in time to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy. One of the things the book delves into is the Butterfly Effect (where a small change at one place can result in large differences to a later state). Naturally, it is something I have been pondering as I read Mr. King’s captivating story. While I can’t quite buy into the theory that a The rest of the story

Loosen the Grip of Stress

Virtually every day when I sit before a blank screen and start to write, I think ‘Who am I to assume that I can write anything positive or inspirational to help someone else’. Most days I can remind myself that I am not writing to anyone but me. My positive blogging project didn’t start because I was looking to change someone else. It stared as a way to remind myself to be positive and as encouragement to me! Nevertheless, if someone reading can take a positive and helpful message from what I write, the more the better! This weekend I seem to have spent a lot of time talking about stress. Maybe it was something on my mind or maybe it is something that needs The rest of the story

Be your own weird self today!

2012/01/25 Gayle 0

Like most people I have spent a life time trying to fit in. I’ve been that round peg trying to fit the square holes. But as my sister so likes to point out, I march to my own drummer. For years I accepted the notion that being different, that being me was bad. However age, I’m amazingly nearing fifty, and life experience now tells me that I wasted far too much time and energy on trying be someone I am not. Dolly Parton said “Figure out who you are and then do it on purpose.” I don’t think I’ve ever heard better advice. Be your own weird self today! People may not love you for it, but you’ll love yourself!
