The Letter That Stirred a Nation – And NEEDS To Again

In the spring of 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. sat in a cramped jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, penning one of the most powerful documents of the Civil Rights Movement. Arrested for participating in nonviolent protests against racial segregation, King responded to a group of local white clergy who had criticized the demonstrations as “unwise and untimely.” His response, later titled “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” stands as a profound exploration of justice, morality, and the urgency of action. On this day January 20th, 2025 – Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration day for Donald Trump – the only convicted felon to serve as President, a dubious honor and a absolute commentary on our society and how far we have digressed as a people, it The rest of the story

Blessing Of The Animals

Perhaps the Blessing of the Animals is the favorite thing I get to do!! Nothing will be like every other year…we’ll be home at dhachaigh rather than Tobaccoville at mama’s (where I’ve spent every one of my 57 Christmases). I can be curmudgeonery anyway and this year has a millionth dose. Anyway, last Saturday night I got all excited to put up a tree! So we bought a coupon – a $40 tree for $28 – an NC TREE from a local store! Win – Win – Win, right…nope all their $40 trees were ~4ft (who wants to look down on the angel?). So I bah humbuged and grumbled (and grumbled about Christmas, about spent money, about…well, everything – it’s a rabbit hole). During the week we went to The rest of the story

Yesterday I preached for the Harbor District Lay Servant Ministries Committee. Here’s my sermon: I have a confession. I am a horrible gardener! I can, and do kill most any plant – I either love it too much or not enough I either cut it back too far or let it grow out of control I am not proud to say…..I can kill mint! In our scripture today is John 15: 1-8 (reading from the common English bible) “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vineyard keeper. 2 He removes any of my branches that don’t produce fruit, and he trims any branch that produces fruit so that it will produce even more fruit. 3 You are already trimmed because of the word I have spoken The rest of the story
