The only real constant in life is change. No, not the stuff that ends up rattling around in your purse of pockets. We are referring to the change that takes your plans and mangles them. Robert Burns, the Scottish national poet from 1759 to 1796 in his poem To a Mouse said:
The best laid schemes of Mice and Men
oft go awry,
And leave us nothing but grief and pain,
For promised joy!
It is easy to see how major changes can derails plans. What we oft forget is that sometimes the minor changes are just as debilitating. It has been said that something as small as a penny on a track can derail a train. It may only derail that train a small amount but a train off it’s track can not continue it’s journey. Do you let this happen to you? Maybe you let a slight schedule change; a thoughtless word from a spouse, friend or co-worker; a minor frustration can take our eyes off our goals.
Do you let minor changes blind you from seeing your goal? Do you let others steal you passion? Right now, take a piece of paper. Write in large bold letters your goal. If you are at home, tape this to your mirror (if you are not at home, do it as soon as you arrive). Take another piece of paper and write your goal at least three times. Cut the paper and put a copy of your goal in your wallet (wrap it around the debit/credit card you use most); put it on our cars dash and one some place you look often (I use the top drawer of my desk).
Change is inevitable. It doesn’t have to be life altering.
