Expect the best but anticipate the worst. You may have heard this expression. It was (and still is) my mother’s great advice. Unfortunately, by planning for the worst, you are short changing your potential. I am not suggesting that you run out tomorrow and spend your life savings. Nor am I suggesting that you fail to act responsibly. What I am saying is that by anticipating the worst, you are creating a conflict in your brain.
Abraham Lincoln said a house divided against itself cannot stand. The same is true for your brain. Your brain can not remain positive while contemplating the worst. You cannot remain focused on reaching your goals if all you see are the obstacles.
Expect the best. Focus on your goal. Focus on how you are reaching your goal. Focus on how you will feel when your goal is attained. There is no room to plan for the worst.
