Feels Like We’re Living in Star Trek

While attending a meeting a few days ago, someone mentioned a video of a 3D printer that was making the rounds. When I returned to my computer, someone, completely unrelated to the meeting,  had emailed the video. Like anyone who has watched this video, I was amazed.

and skeptical. It looks a little to far fetched to be true….or is it? According to SNOPES, it is indeed a real thing. According to Wikipedia ‘Since 2003 there has been large growth in the sale of 3D printers. Additionally, the cost of 3D printers has declined.[2] The technology also finds use in the jewelry, footwear, industrial design, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), automotive, aerospace, dental and medical industries, education, GIS, civil engineers, etc.’

According to my limited research, you could be printing monochrome 3D for under $15,000 and in color for under $25,000. I’ve been racking my brain to try to find a use for a 3D printer (far more useful that 3D TV, IMO) and I still haven’t found a good use.
