Inspire Yourself by Inspiring Others

This past weekend was an interesting weekend. Jenn participated in the PPD Beach 2 Battleship Triathlon on Saturday. I am sure she will write about that experience on her blog  www.fat2triathlete.com and I won’t steal her thunder. However, I was inspired just as the person ‘hanging around’ waiting for the finish. I saw strangers comfort each other when they were unable to continue. I saw strangers cheering and encouraging each other. I saw people making an effort (while they were focused on their own race) to support and root for for others who were struggling. It was inspiring! I walked away on Saturday thinking how awesome it would be if in our everyday life we looked at those around us and realized we are all The rest of the story

What will you do today?

Do you ever feel like a fraud? I do! Sometimes I write my blog of happiness and encouragement when I feel anything but happy or encouraged. Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions. ~~Dalai Lama   In my life I often complain saying: “We never DO ANYthing fun any more”. I complain about how “all we do is work and watch TV”. Yet, I am the first one to plop down in front of the television and refuse to budge! On Saturday following our usual routine following Farmers Market – I said, “Let’s go to the Dog Show” to which Jenn replied “Do you really want to go stand around at the dog show after we’ve just stood for FIVE hours?” It The rest of the story

There is a Lesson Everywhere – Even in Game Night

2012/10/04 Gayle 0

Wednesday night is game night at our house. As I began to write this I tried to sum up how Wednesdays came to be game night and quickly abandoned the long explanation (that adds nothing to the purpose of my story). You’ll need to just be content knowing Game Night is Wednesday Night and it is SACRED! The evening always begins the same….we eat! However, we eat family style (AKA old school) we sit at the table and talk while we consume anything from pizza to black bean soup. The conversation is all over the map (as are the age ranges of the participants), some weeks we spend a lot of time on High School or College type things; in other weeks we discuss politics The rest of the story

Hope – who doesn’t need HOPE?

It seems these days everywhere you turn there is a Mob of some ilk. Obviously the world has decided to cash in on the Herd mentality!  From Flash Mobs to Cash Mobs businesses and individuals are trying to influence what we buy and how we act. Yesterday, I saw a business touting a Crop Mob (yep, they’re a garden / farm business). Now, I am in no way saying these things are bad. I actually think the cash mobs supporting local businesses are awesome! However, until a few days ago, I have never felt compelled to participate in a Mob of any sort (in case you didn’t know – I pride myself on not being overly influenced by the pack). However, last week my friend Marty tweeted about wanting to The rest of the story

Play to Your Strengths

2012/09/24 Gayle 1

Do you ever think about your character? You know – those innate traits, characteristics and features that form your individual nature. I sometimes think of character as the person you are when no one is looking. Just to be clear, I do not mean this in a moralistic sense, although I do believe morality can play a role in character, but that’s a different post. On Sunday I was reading The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work (affiliate link) by Shawn Achor.  In the book he suggests taking a test that will help determine your character strengths. You too can take the test at http://www.viame.org. This site explains that “Your character strengths are already within you, but isolating The rest of the story
