The Letter That Stirred a Nation – And NEEDS To Again

In the spring of 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. sat in a cramped jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, penning one of the most powerful documents of the Civil Rights Movement. Arrested for participating in nonviolent protests against racial segregation, King responded to a group of local white clergy who had criticized the demonstrations as “unwise and untimely.” His response, later titled “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” stands as a profound exploration of justice, morality, and the urgency of action. On this day January 20th, 2025 – Martin Luther King Day and Inauguration day for Donald Trump – the only convicted felon to serve as President, a dubious honor and a absolute commentary on our society and how far we have digressed as a people, it The rest of the story

Crèche Journey – Day 37

Today I celebrate epiphany and the end of our nativity journey (it’s a sad day). In some traditions the days of Christmas began December 26th and go through epiphany, in most they begin the 25th and end the day before epiphany (I suppose, I’m playing both sides ). This lovely nativity quilt is new this season. It came from the Upscale Resale at St Paul’s a few weeks ago, donated by my dear friend Pat. I often talk about the patchwork of friends who make a warm an cozy quilt for life, and this quilt reminds me of the community we build together that loves and supports us, that holds and upholds, that challenges and loves us. It’s a patchwork of personality, places, commonalities, and The rest of the story

Crèche Journey – Day 36

Today’s nativity, for the 12th day of Christmas (I have one more for epiphany tomorrow), comes from the crèche festival at Mepkin Abbey. This is the second year this nativity has been with me. It has yet to find a display place that it seems to fit (I moved it this morning for a photo) which makes me think of all of us who never think we fit or fit in and how the Christ child came for us as well. I would argue that Jesus came specifically for those who feel they’re on the outside to draw us in and make us belong. And, Jesus calls his followers to go and do likewise! Merry Christmas, y’all! Crèche Journey – Day 35

Today’s nativity has slowly found a place in my heart. Several years ago this nativity caught my mom’s fancy and she bought one for herself and other family members, I made fun of it, because…I was a brash 20something (I might still be). The front of this nativity is a fountain, and 20ish years ago my dog Dodie thought mom’s was a great drinking fountain (my mom didn’t approve). Anyway, this one was given to my grandma, and came to me in 2000. Jesus said let all who are thirsty come and drink. Rivers of living water will flow from within them, from within you. #Day35 #11thdayofChristmas #nativitycollector #crèchenerd
