4-Steps to Living Happier

2011/09/30 Gayle 0

Today would have been my dad’s 80th birthday. Since 1997, the year my dad died, the 30th of September has been a melancholic day for me. I think of all the time I wasted as a teenager, and later as a young adult, being annoyed and sometimes down right angry with my dad for some now un-recallable action or inaction. So today, let’s talk about how to stop letting the petty things in life take over. Some days it just seems like I like to rant. I can, and do, rail on and on about some silly little inconvenience. I don’t really mean it; I just can’t seem to let stuff go. STUFF! Little, petty, stupid, stuff. So how can I or we if you’re The rest of the story

What’s it Take to Succeed?

2011/09/29 Gayle 1

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.  ~Abraham Lincoln Everyone wants to be successful; in life, in love, in business. Yet, we spend a ridiculous amount of time feeling like failures! We make up cute ditties like ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try try again’! We want success to come to us in a straight line. I did A, B C, and D and that should equal SUCCESS! Instead we find that A, B C, and D equals a try again or a give up. Success doesn’t come in a straight line! Beginnings

As humans we spend a lot of time thinking about the end. We ask questions like, ‘what’s your end game?’  ‘Where do you want to end up?’ or ‘where do you see this going?’ We do things like create a bucket list in an attempt to be sure we get in the things we wish to do before we reach the end. Rarely do we concentrate our efforts on the beginning. We frequently live our lives thinking about the end game; Trudging through our days to get to the evening or making our way through the week to celebrate the weekend. We live our lives as if it is just something to get through. Today, you get to breathe unassisted for 24 hours. What else The rest of the story

Even a Superhero needs Help

“If I could be a superhero I would be… Awesome Man I’d fly around the world fighting crime According to my awesome plan And if I saw criminals trying to lie Hurting other people and making them cry I’d haul them off to jail in my awesome van ‘Cause I would be Awesome Man” — Stephen Lynch, “Superhero” I read a blog post a few days ago entitled ‘you are your own superhero’. In the post Chris Brogan talks about how you do not have to wait for someone else to save you. You can and should save yourself. I have been thinking about that post since I first read it. It really spoke to me and the fact that I am in control of my The rest of the story

Back to Basics

My friend Ted owns a successful retail business and a booming online shop. Ted volunteers in his community and has the usually family issues added in. Ted is a man with a lot of balls in the air. Yesterday morning Ted called me. I’m sure neither of us remembers the real reason for his call, but we spent over an hour talking about why we do what we do. Ted had hit a wall in his life. He is working more and enjoying less. His statement to me was ‘why am I working so hard to be successful when it just means I work more?’ Ted’s passion for surfing is what made his business successful and yet, Ted no longer has time to surf. It The rest of the story
