How Long Can You Hold It?

2011/10/19 Gayle 1

Everyone has stress in their lives. We stress over bills. We stress over relationships. We stress over our jobs. The list can and often does go on ad infinitum. A young lady confidently walked around the room  while leading and explaining stress management to an audience; with a raised  glass of water, and everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question,  ‘half empty or half full?’….. She fooled them all… “How heavy is this glass of water?” she inquired with a smile. Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem.  If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have The rest of the story

Be Fearless

FEAR!  We all have it. We all are forced to face our fears from time to time. Whether it the spider who confronts you in your bedroom when no one else is around or the idea that something is wrong in your body and you fear life changing news. 2011/10/17 Gayle 1

I spent some time with my friend Dorrie this past weekend.  We enjoyed some fresh shrimp and a blazing fire pit on a chilly fall evening. Dorrie is one of those people I just enjoy spending time with; she’s intelligent, funny, and the kind of friend who will and does go out of her way to help. Dorrie is a little over weight and she constantly makes reference to the fact that she never walks anywhere, she waddles. She constantly makes reference to her ‘fat butt’ or calls herself rotund. For years, I have considered that Dorrie has been hurt by other people’s comments about her size and she was taking the strike first approach. She would say it before anyone could even think it. Saturday Night Shrimp Boil

2011/10/16 Gayle 0

It seems like the summer has flown by and I took very little time for my camera. I hope that fall will offer an opportunity to spend more time really relaxing and therefore playing with my camera. Last night I attended a shrimp boil. Although I was without my camera, I did spend some time playing with the various settings on my phones camera. Hope you enjoy the results.

Overcoming Your Negative Addiction

2011/10/12 Gayle 0

Yesterday we talked about why it sometimes feels so good to be negative. We learned about how negative emotions can feed the pleasure center as much as truly pleasurable things. As it turns out, pain and negative emotions (e.g. self-pity, anger, guilt) also activate the beta-endorphin and dopamine pathways. So negative is addicting, now what? Today let’s talk about how to change our negative thinking. Your addiction to the negative is serving a need. What is that need? The first step is to discover the perceived deficit in you that creates your need to diminish someone else. Perhaps you look at others and are negative about their appearance because you are unhappy with your own image. Perhaps you are targeting yourself with your negative thoughts.
