Plenty of Socks at Lo Tide

We have arrived at the time of year when festival and events permeate my life. Last week Jenn announced that we have no free Saturdays until October.  Part of me is excited to be back to the grind and part of me is already longing for a Saturday free from work! Yesterday we attended, as vendors, the Lo Tide Run in Carolina Beach.  This was the 8th annual Lo Tide Run whose goal is to raise money to assist local cancer victims in financial need in memory of Steve Haydu of Carolina Beach who died from cancer at a young age. This year there were 1950 runners pre-registered for the race and undoubtly over 2000 who ran (some registered the day of the race). An Unexpected Treasure

Yesterday I attended the District meeting of UDC. The meeting was hosted by the Cape Fear Chapter and held at the Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church in Wilmington, NC. After our meeting we were treated to a tour of the Church. It was an amazing treat. I had almost left my camera at home and I am glad I popped it into my bag at the last minute. The Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church has a history dating back to 1847. With this rich record it is surprising to find they are second oldest Methodist Church in Wilmington. There were so many interesting aspects of this unassuming exterior, including a connection to China’s Soong dynasty Uon entering the sanctuary I was amazed to find a The rest of the story

Up Close and Personal with History

On Saturday February 25, 2012 we went to Cameron Art Museum for an event they call Civil War Living History. As a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, I have been taught that the correct term is not ‘Civil War’ but the ‘War Between the States’. The distinction being that The Confederate States of America had seceded before the war began. Thus the war was between two Independent countries. Like many Southerners, I oft refer to it as the “War of Northern Aggression’. No matter what you choose to call it, it was a troubled and defining time in our country. One that continues to fascinate and intrigue many people (including me); for that reason I attend many battle sites and events around this The rest of the story

People and Plungers

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you probably know I love social interaction. I find people and discussions with people fascinating; however, as subjects in photographs they hold no appeal. Photographing people just doesn’t do it for me. Having said this, my photos for this week are very human populated. I hope you enjoy them anyway 🙂 Saturday began with the meeting of my UDC Chapter at Jack Mackerels in Kure Beach. I took several photographs and will be sharing them over on the UDC website. However this fluke of photography I couldn’t resist.   By the way, no the room was not that dark.                   Immediately after the meeting we traipsed over to The rest of the story

Good times at the Cape Fear Tweetup

2012/01/31 Gayle 0

Last Thursday Friday (Thanks to @dawnbugni for sending me a tweet to remind me it was Friday not Thursday) was one of my favorite days…it was Tweetup day!! I know it may sound strange to those who haven’t yet succumbed to the twitter addiction, but the day I get to see my twitter friends IRL (in real life) is a happy happy day! These people are apart of my everyday life. We share joys and sorrows. This group of people saw me through several misdiagnoses and eventual surgery the end of last year, some even visited me in the hospital. We offer advice and are even available for private counseling –also known as direct messaging (and occasionally even a phone call). There was a lot The rest of the story
