30 DAYS OF THANKFUL – DAY EIGHTEEN: St Paul’s UMC

2012/11/18 Gayle 0

Today I am thankful for St Paul’s UMC in Carolina Beach! After many years of searching for a Church that I could call my own, I believe I have found it at St Paul’s. I have appended many Churches in my almost 50 years and I have never encountered a a more friendly Church nor a more welcoming Church. While this is a small congregation, I can not imagine that will last….it’s hard to keep good things hidden and once people find St Paul’s the Church will have no choice but to grow. I am excited and looking forward to be a part of that growth.

30 DAYS OF THANKFUL – DAY SEVENTEEN: Opportunity

2012/11/17 Gayle 0

Today I spent five hours in bitter cold chasing opportunity. Believe me, I grumbled! Complained! and wanted to abandon and head to a warmer place…but I persevered! Sales were slow (read virtually non-existent) but I was committed. Then it happened – two women approached. Said “We’re looking for you” and proceeded to make a rather large purchase. Now, I’ll not be retiring any day soon because of their purchase. But it reminded me that opportunity is available yet, We often lose the opportunity because we fail to act! When we do act we often lose the opportunity because we fail to persevere! Today I am thankful for opportunity! I pray for the wisdom to recognize it and to persevere!

30 DAYS OF THANKFUL – DAY SIXTEEN: Technology

2012/11/16 Gayle 0

Technology seems like such a silly thing to be thankful for and yet, I am! I sometimes think about the changes my grandmother saw in her lifetime.  She was born in 1906 to a West Virginia farming family and died at the age of 94. It wasn’t until the 1920’s that middle class people in the United States began to be able to afford cars.  It was the 30’s and 40’s when telephones became popular and came to most households. Today the average person holds more technology in the telephone device most of us carry in our pocket than the whole world had when my grandmother was born. And I am thankful!

30 DAYS OF THANKFUL – DAY FIFTEEN: Sunshine and Rain

2012/11/15 Gayle 0

Today I am thankful for sunshine and rain both literally and figuratively. I am thankful for rain and all the nourishing aspects of rain and for sunshine and all the nourishment it brings to our environment. My mother likes to talk about the weather. A particular fascination for her is the amount of rain she has received. I can remember as a child how she would document on a calendar the 1/10th of inches of rain and you analyze this data against data from other years. I remember many childhood suppers where this was ALL my folks discussed – YAWN!! I believe our weather discussions frustrate both my mother and I equally. I have the attitude that the weather is going to do what it The rest of the story

30 DAYS OF THANKFUL – DAY FOURTEEN: The Pursuit of Happiness

2012/11/14 Gayle 0

Regular readers of my blog know I have been talking about the pursuit of happiness for months. Today I am thankful to be able to take part in just such a pursuit. Thomas Jefferson was on to something when he wrote that we “are endowed by their (our) Creator with …. The Pursuit of Happiness.” I have come to realize that true happiness comes from the pursuit of happiness and not some illusive and ill-defined state of mind. We think happiness is a state of mind. That it’s a place in time. Happiness is in the journey. It’s the friends we make, the trips we take. Happiness comes from the wrong turns with amazing views! Happiness lives in the memories we share; the burdens we The rest of the story
