The Agony of Defeat #epicquest #100Days

For over a year I have been calling my adventure to walk the Disney Marathon 2014 my Epic Quest. I thought about my Epic Quest as I walked, and walked and walked for training. I thought of my epic quest as I planned, for trains, and cars, and hotels. I trained, I walked, I planned. Then I got sick. No worries, it’s three weeks until the race….it’s just the flu! Unfortunately my lungs and therefore asthma got involved. I didn’t recover as quick as I would have liked. Antibiotics, steroids, and an inhaler became my companions. I considered calling it quits and not going to Florida. But I had trained. I had spent money. Ultimately, I knew I may not finish.  I WANTED to do this! The rest of the story

Disney Marathon 2014 Gayle & Jenn’s Quest part 11 visiting Ponce Inlet and the Marine Science Center

2014/01/15 Gayle 0

We had a delightfully leisurely morning. Playing with D’Artagnan visiting with Jenny lingering over breakfast (stuff vacations are made of). We then made our way to the Ponce Inlet lighthouse. The history is fun, the lighthouse beautiful…. if you’re this way check it out. We then went to the Marine Science Center. The reviews called it simple, good for children, etc. We loved it! The sea turtle hospital was just too cool. But then we spend our summer watching for sea turtles. The $5 admission was well spent! Posted from WordPress for Android. Disney Marathon 2014 Gayle & Jenn’s Quest part 10 101 Dalmatian Hotel

So it’s time for post race vacation! What to do what to do? We decided to visit the Disney All Star Movie Resort and check out the 101 Dalmatian Hotel. It was super cute! We were done with Orlando and Disney and off to visit my nephew and his wife in Daytona. We had seen that there were air boat rides available between Orlando and Daytona, it seemed like a fun thing to do…. And a 40-mile (round trip) detour seemed worth it. Sadly, the man who runs the tours wasn’t working on Monday and didn’t return any calls. However the bright spot turned out to be the eclectic and unique place we found to eat. Jolly Gator Fish Camp had a delish burger (for The rest of the story

Disney Marathon 2014 Gayle & Jenn’s Quest part 9 – the race

2014/01/12 Gayle 2

There is so much  to share about today! Our day started at 3:00am. We scrambled some eggs, and headed out to Epcot. After a missed turn we arrived at our destination.  There was so much to take in…. so much going on. We arrived at our corral in plenty if time. And waited for the race to begin. Then the race began.  Was surprised how emotional I felt at the beginning. Our first mile went well. The second  was fast (fast for us)… Then the wheels began to come off the bus. I realized I had forgotten my inhaler and had left it at the hotel. Breath became a HUGE issue. We were determined.  And although  was literally sucking wind and unable to catch my The rest of the story

Disney Marathon 2014 Gayle & Jenn’s Quest part 7″ the expo

2014/01/12 Gayle 0

The packet pickup and expo were a while lot of fun. We attended a talk on the Science of Sports Bras. It was interesting… who knew it was a science. I did acquire a new supportive undergarment as a result of what I learned (is this TMI?). http://youtu.be/hZ9bBi68ZRk. As I stated, it because abundantly clear we aren’t prepared for this race. But we’re going to have fun fun fun til they make us leave the course. Posted from WordPress for Android. Please excuse any typing miscues.
