When to Give Up on a Goal

2011/08/18 Gayle 0

Last week we talked about persistence. The tenacity to pursue a goal until you reach it. In that post I encouraged you to believe that success was just around the corner. While I still believe this is true, I also wish to point out the law of diminishing returns. The law of diminishing returns says that there comes a point in time when it just doesn’t make sense to keep going. According to licensed psychotherapist and life coach Alyson Mischel , ‘the key to staying healthy – but still striving enough to make progress in your personal and professional lives – is to know when to call it quits’. According to a study in the journal Psychological Science, Canadian researchers found that people who failed to The rest of the story

SMART goal setting

Like it or not, goal setting is a central and essential aspect of life. For some of us, this is a mindful process, however many others are unaware of the goal setting act and therefore have very little direction or purpose. You may be surprised to learn that you are setting goals on a daily basis. Some are relatively small and seemingly insignificant such as deciding what you will eat for lunch, while others are more important and relevant to your potential accomplishments. So today let’s talk about setting SMART goals in life; mostly the big GOALS, but also some of the small goals. A SMART goal refers to a method of goal setting and not just intelligent goals. Prepare to meet your Goal

2011/08/02 Gayle 1

Last night as I was falling asleep, I thought of the perfect blog post for today. As I drifted to unconsciousness, my mind put together words and phrases to express wonderful and uplifting thoughts. This morning those thoughts are gone, along with the concept! I know that I should keep a pen and paper by my bed; I know I should always be prepared to write my thoughts. The question of the day is – are you prepared? My goal is to write this blog! I try to be alert every day of ideas, concepts, and inspiration for this blog. I have learned to use the recorder on my phone because often the inspiration hits me as I am driving and unable to write. Are The rest of the story

Remember? (Tips for Recall)

2011/08/01 Gayle 1

When I was younger I had the memory of an elephant, it seemed impossible for me to forget anything. My life was busy then with school and a full-time job. I even fit in coaching Little League. Yet, my memory was, or seemed to be, spot on. Some 20 years later, my memory isn’t what it used to be. Now my days are filled with notes to myself and trying to remember where to find the notes.   🙂 So, today I’d like to share with you some memory techniques. Because you cant reach your goal unless you remember what it is. 1.   Structure and organize – Researchers have found that information is organized in memory in related clusters. I have found that having my to-do The rest of the story
