Be kind to one another…forgiving each other…do do doodlie do

Do you ever sit in Church on Sunday and think…’WOW! Has the preacher been peaking in my windows? or is he mind-melding my thoughts?’ Yesterday was one of those days for me. If you read my blog often, you’ll know that I rarely speak on religion but this blog is burning in me. So, bear with me. The sermon started with a cute ditty I learned in Church camp at Christian Acres a life-time ago. It’s the words to Ephesians 4:32 set to a cute tune that includes do do doodlie do (maybe you remember it too). But yesterday the words to the scripture really resonated with me: Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven The rest of the story

What do Your Social Media Posting Say about You?

Recently, someone said to me ‘you must live the happiest life ever’ I was shocked and said, ‘Why, do you think so?’ to which she replied ‘Well, your Facebook is full of pictures of reading, or going places and doing things and unless what you’re posting isn’t true – you’re living a happy life.’ I stammered a bit and assured my friend that I was not posting things that did not happen and that yes, it was all true. I even confirmed that I live a pretty happy life. But that conversation has made me think. Several days later I related the above story to my friend Dawn Bugni. Dawn is a Master Resume Writer (one of only a handful in the world) and she The rest of the story

You Are Here

Yesterday began as any other Saturday for me. The alarm sounded before 6am. I avoided getting out of bed. Then rushed to leave the house and to arrive at and be set up for the Carolina Beach Farmers Market before eight o’clock. At the conclusion of market we broke down, had lunch with friends, unloaded the truck then headed to the couch and relaxation. On an ordinary Saturday my day would have ended there….on the couch! I often think about, and occasionally will even voice, my lamentations over the life I used to have (full of fun as I recall) and the life I want to have (full of fun) and the life I am living (napping on the couch). Yesterday, I broke with the The rest of the story

Put on Your Oxygen Mask First

This morning as Jenn was packing her things and preparing to leave for Farmer’s Market, she remarked to me about the breakfast foods in the house and what we had that cold be the basis of lunch. This discussion caused me to ask ‘what are you taking to eat?’ In typical fashion Jenn replied ‘I’ll be alright’ and I realized she had planned for me and my comfort but had given no consideration for her and her needs. As I have been pursuing my theory of happiness I realize that it is easy to put someone else’s needs above our needs. We want those we love to be happy. However, I am smacked by the reality that we can not make someone else happy. We The rest of the story

Happy First day of Spring – Go Pursue Happiness

2012/03/20 Gayle 1

Happiness is an interesting concept. It is something we all desire and yet it is a state of mind that few can completely articulate. What is happiness? I learned as a child that I was entitled to the right to pursue happiness. Like many American children, I believed that meant I was entitled to happiness. I could ramble on and on about the ills of our societal belief that we are entitled to be happy, but I won’t, perhaps I’ll rant about that later. What I am coming to accept is that happiness comes in the pursuit. We must actively seek happiness. Happiness doesn’t just come and find you. For the past several months I have been guilty of demanding to be happy. And, to The rest of the story
