What’s it Take to Succeed?

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.  ~Abraham Lincoln Everyone wants to be successful; in life, in love, in business. Yet, we spend a ridiculous amount of time feeling like failures! We make up cute ditties like ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try try again’! We want success to come to us in a straight line. I did A, B C, and D and that should equal SUCCESS! Instead we find that A, B C, and D equals a try again or a give up. Success doesn’t come in a straight line! Success looks like this graphic (which one of our Facebook friends shared and I can no longer find the original posting). Success is The rest of the story

How to Pick’em (friends, of course)

Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher. – Oprah Winfrey When I sat down to begin writing, my intent was to write about dealing with the disappointments that come with human entanglements. However as I began to tap out letters hoping that words would form, I quickly discovered that I needed inspiration; and inspiration I found, in the form of an Oprah Winfrey quote. Which then lead me to recall a Chinese Proverb, or something, that goes something similar to this….If you want to know a man’s character, look no further than his friends. Who are you surrounded by? You’ll strengthen your family. A number of psychological studies have shown that buying experiences — such as a vacation — increases happiness more than buying possessions.  Go back to your own childhood for a minute: Can you list all the presents you got for each The rest of the story

If you live on the east coast you probably experienced Irene over the weekend. Perhaps you, like me are a veteran of many hurricanes or perhaps this was your first adventure. Either way, I hope you survived without incident. What Irene taught me is that I am too addicted to my electronic gadgets and to my online connections. I spent a perfectly good opportunity to relax and read chatting on Facebook and twitter. When the storm had passed, I was filled with regret that I did not take the opportunity to relax and enjoy a good book. In essence my mind was just like the hurricane; whirling non stop with new information and moving from topic to topic. Has your life become a mirror of The rest of the story

Everyone’s a Critic

My mother has her PhD in criticism. Nothing has ever been enough and she is never pleased with anything. She believes that she motivates people by pointing out how they could be better. Some days it feels as if everyone is my mother! They all want to tell me how to live my life. Not just family members but, the neighbors, some guy on the street, even billboards and commercials want to tell you how you should eat or what you should wear. It can almost be overwhelming all the people who want to tell us how to live and who we should be or become. Then there are those who are just critical of everything you do. If you start exercising they feel the need The rest of the story
