Marina Life

I’m a frequent visitor to the marina in Carolina Beach. In the spring and fall I am there every Saturday. This past Saturday, however, I spent some time with a different view of the marina and marina life. I met a group of men who had been scuba diving. They told of bull nose sharks and a variety of underwater adventures. Although they wanted to know why I would take photos of their tanks and not of the ‘handsome group of men’ 🙂 I am fairly certain the fishermen who use these do not call them bobbers, but I also feel confident they serve a similar purpose. I, of course, am VERY attracted to the orange color!         A neighbor once told me that The rest of the story

Dads, Trains and a World Record

On Saturday, April 23, 2011 I snuck away from my soap selling duties to attend the attempt by the model railroaders from the Wilmington Rail Road Museum to break the record for the world’s longest model train at Wilmington’s new Convention Center. A train consisting of 31 locomotives and 1563 cars was placed on 1000 feet of track in the Convention Center’s main exhibit hall.  At about 925.55 feet long, this train traveled continuously for 750 feet to surpass the record set by Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany in 2008.  The World Record Run was witnessed and documented in order to be included among other achievements listed by Guinness World Records. A special feature of this event allowed individuals and businesses to sponsor a limited edition locomotive, custom The rest of the story

Easter Sunrise 2011

2011/04/26 Gayle 0

As has become our tradition, we attended the sunrise service on Carolina Beach. The Carolina Beach Community of Churches sponsor this event each year. It has been a rare year that God didn’t provide a spectacular sunrise for the occasion. This year was no exception. All things considered, it was a beautiful morning, Even if no one sang ‘Up From the Grave he Arose’

Weight loss improves memory

There are all kinds of inspirations in the world. There’s the no one believes I can therefore I will. There are those who are just motivated, internally. And there are those of us who struggle to stay on the path. I am the latter! I struggle to keep my health and fitness in the forefront of my mind. My mother has attempted to browbeat me into submission my whole life (about everything, not just health) but I just do not respond positively to such tactics. On the other hand I am not really susceptible to the cajoling either. However, a new story may (MAY, such a big short word) tip the scale to make me work harder to lose weight…..Weight loss improves memory and concentration. The rest of the story

A Day off Work

2011/04/13 Gayle 0

I visited Moore’s Creek National Battle field yesterday as a part of my day off from work. Although it rained (poured actually) through much of my visit, I was able to take a few interesting shots.  The ones in this post were all taken down by the creek near the picnic area.
