Diabetic Oregon Man ‘Doing Fine’ After Dog Eats Toes

I read this story several months ago. I thought about including in my strange news posts over on the Outrageous Experiment Home page, but never did it. However, I think it’s more of an inspiration piece anyway.

A diabetic man from Oregon who awoke to find that his dog had eaten three of his toes says he is recovering and hopes to leave the hospital soon.Nathan Jones told The Associated Press on Friday that he is “doing fine” and resting, but he declined to speak further.

Jones called 911 on Tuesday to say his dog had eaten part of his right foot while he was sleeping, including three toes.

The hospital says Jones is in fair condition and was expected to go home Friday.

Jones had no feeling in his feet because of diabetes.

Roseburg veterinarian Alan Ross says the dog may have been trying to rid his owner of dead tissue, which is not uncommon.

The dog is at an animal shelter.

I know what you’re thinking. Really, I do! You are thinking what the heck is inspirational about this? The truth is there is nothing inspiration about the story in and of it’s self. This is a horrible tragedy. I suspect the dog in the story was put dog and no doubt the man is being forced to live without toes.

The inspirational part, is the ‘WOW! That could happen to me’. It’s the push to say extreme things happen with uncontrolled blood sugar. So, get off your ass and exercise! Let go of that sugery Mountain Dew! Cake is NOT your feet’s friend!!

That is the inspiration in this story.

PS I hope I am wrong about the dogs fate! and I hope the man is coping.
