The Power of NO

The first truly empowering word a child learns is ‘no’.  It is fun to watch them when they have learned the power of this word. They use it for everything. no no no no no Quickly the cute is gone and adults begin to curb a child’s use of no.

As adults, we are still curbing our use of the word no. Everywhere we look someone wants something from us. Our children, our spouse, our employer, even the dog, everyone wants some little piece of you. More often than not, you want to give, to take care of, and to over achieve.  It is not wrong to want to help, to nurture, to be the best you can be.

However, by saying yes are you are losing yourself to those around you. How often are you are saying yes, but know it is stretching you too thin? Are you doing so much for others that you have no time for you? Then it is time to revert to your terrible twos. Relearn the word no.

The word no can make you a better parent, partner and employee. Focus on what is important and say no to everything else. Your life will be better.
